CNC Machinist/Programmer – 1st Shift (Monday-Friday)
Fusion Babbitting Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead our CNC Department. We are a second-generation, family-owned shop located less than 10 minutes from I-94, near American Family Field. Our workload consists mainly of one-off and short-run orders, with some tolerances as tight as ±.0005”. The CNC Department Lead will manage a team of 4-6 operators and work closely with the General Manager and Process Engineer. The role involves programming and operating CNC machines when necessary.

Job Summary:
- Responsible for programming, fixturing, tool setup, in-process inspection, and machining tight tolerance features (+/- 0.0005″).
- Collaborate with Managers, Process Engineers, Operators, and Quality to plan cost-effective production.
- Ensure safety is the top priority.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Program and machine parts on various CNC machines and controls (Mazak, Toshiba VTL, Okuma VTL, Sharp VMC, Viper Milling Center, Proto TRAK, Milltronics).
- Perform advanced progressive programming and machining of tight tolerance features (±.0005”).
- Read blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
- Develop processes, create part programs, select tooling, and perform setups.
- Ensure accuracy and quality of workmanship.
- Complete inspections and paperwork.
- Provide feedback to improve programs and processes.
- Maintain a safe, clean work area.
- Perform other shop duties as needed.
Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Journeyman or 2-year technical degree preferred.
Experience & Skills:
- 2-3 years of CNC machining experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with CNC machining and programming of tight tolerance features.
- Knowledge of Mazak turning centers, Mazatrol, Mastercam, conversational programming, G & M code programming, and traditional metrology tools.
- Basic knowledge of GD&T.
- Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills.
Language & Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, schedules, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and communicate effectively with employees.
- Understanding of geometry, trigonometry, fractions, decimals, angles, and ratios.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Occasional respirator fit testing and use may be required.
Work Environment:
- Indoor shop environment with forklift traffic, overhead cranes, airborne particles, and moderate noise.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Completion of Fusion Babbitting Overhead Crane and Forklift Training required.
